Lekhani, the heart of Kathekhola Rural municipality – 8, situated in Baglung District, Gandaki Province, at the hill of Kotpokhera, is now as beautiful as it is and as a storehouse of enlightenment. Looking at its past, we are not only surprised but also shocked. According to the information received from the elders, before the year 2007, now Lekhani Secondary School “which is a non profit goverment educaional institute”. The existing hill was known as Chihan (grave) Dando. With the change of time, Kotpakhera hill has also succeeded in coming in a systematic and developed form.
Our forefathers were Blessed as who took the initiative to remove the darkness and build a powerhouse to spread the light of knowledge. It was a really difficult and far-sighted task to start this great work. With the Great Objective, “we must spread the light of education in the villageand the literacy rate should be increased in the village” with the help of District Soldier Board, Subedar Ganga Prasad Roka, who was known as the founder of the school, and other fellow dignitaries who accompanied him should not be forgotten at present and in the future by our descendants. Initially, the demand was made in the District Soldier Board, Baglung, for the sole purpose of educating only the children of ex-servicemen from India and the United Kingdom.
Although the school was established on 1 Jestha 2007 B.S., the school had received temporary approval from the Government of Nepal on 12 Falgun 2009. It got a permanent approval on . 2014 /06 /15 B.S as the primary school. During the research, it was found that the students were kept in a mat in the hut under a thatched roof. According to the records, 70 students were enrolled in the Lekhani Primary School in the year 2014 BS.
Despite the help and permission given by the District soldier Board, Baglung, there is a shortage of places to construct a school building. So, the Subedar Ganga Prasad Roka who is known as the founder and others gentleman from the village Gaurishwor Kandel, Dil Bahadur Pun, Pandit Govind Gautam, Balaram Gurungs etc. arranged a meeting to buy a 2 Ropani land in Chihan dando from Nrahari kadel (Nayaghare). At the same time, the school received about 3 aana of land from the chief (Nandlal Pun) for free. The Lekhani Primary School, which started from a small area with straw huts, has now four concrete buildings with 15 rooms and 104-15-20 ropanis of land in the school’s own name.
The school has gone through many ups and downs so far. The name of the school has changed many times. Starting from Lekhani Primary School in 2007 B.S., D.S.V. Lekhani Primary School in 2021, in 2022. It was found to be Vidya Bhandar Primary School Lekhani. Also, by 2022, D.S.D helped us.
